At a time when most countries and music companies had dropped vinyl, the ever-progressive RD European Office were still programming for LP. So this 8LP set was produced and offered to other editions, ready licensed from BMG and in Cassette and CD versions as well. This not only explained the odd catalogue numbering, but the, by then, very uncomfortable split 'pleasure programming' of the CDs below. The UK picked up this set and issued it 'as was'. Unsurprisingly it wasn't a great success, although musically it contained most jazz-swing standards that anyone could really want. But as it was entirely licensed from a single company, the recordings were not always the best ones, and some ommisions were glaring! The US produced a 4CD set in 2002 of the same name which used many of the same tracks, again licensed from BMG, but with a different running order.
