  1. I think these RD Christmas sets are the only CD releases with Billy Cotton's "When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney" (a sheet music hit in the 50s) derived from an official master source (ie. licensed from Decca, not a public domain CD). The sound quality of the Henry Hall track is very impressive for material of that vintage, so I wonder if EMI had a master for it, or if it's just a high quality 78 dub. Can't say the song itself is very good though! I bought this CD secondhand before Christmas - mainly for the Billy Cotton track, but there are some other gems on it too.

    1. My memory isn't so clear on this set, but I'm pretty sure we would have used an EMI master. Our engineer's would have worked on it to get it to 'fit in' with the other recordings on the set, and they did an excellant job. We had used 78s in the past, on other collections, but as this set is almost entirely created from supplied masters, it doesn't seem likely that we would have put all the money and effort of sourcing and remastering a 78 for a single track.
